History of Bandon Art Group
The full storyThe original members of Bandon Art Group met in 1991 while attending Art Classes given in St.Brogans School by local artist Colette Mills which continued until 1993.
The very first Exhibition was held in Bandon Credit Union in July 1993, as part of the Bandon Week celebrations. When Colette retired from teaching she encouraged us to form a group and to continue painting and to exhibit our work. From this the Bandon Art Group was formed, and the group met in the home of Lynda and Rev. Arthur Minion ,the then Curate to Bandon Union of Parishes. until January 1994 when the town Hall became available to rent, later on we moved again, and now meet at the Parish Centre, behind St.Patrick's Church, which has a lovely spacious bright room , perfect for our needs. We currently have twelve members, and we have had almost fifty members belonging to the group over the years since the group began in 1993. |
Twenty years later four of the thirteen founding members are still part of the group, as you can see above, Freda, Evelyn, Vera and Agnes.
We exhibit regulary in Bandon, and venues have included the Bandon Library, the Gateway Hall at the Methodist Church, The Blue Geranium Cafe at Hosford's Garden Centre, Riverview Shopping Centre and Mary Rose's Cafe in Bandon. For each of Bandon Art Group's Exhibitions we have nominated and supported a local charity, and these have included - . The R.N.L.I., the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Bandon Soroptomists, ACT Cancer, the Bandon branch of St .Vincent De Paul, The Chernobyl Children's Project (Bandon Branch), B.H.O.C.
